IdeasTap have got 10 heavily subsidised places to give away on Magnum’s next two-day Professional Practice seminar in Birmingham on 3 and 4 December. This opportunity is available to IdeasTap members between the ages of 16 and 25. With an emphasis on providing practical and vocational guidance to emerging photographers, this is an unmissable opportunity to gain tailor-made, impartial advice from specialists at the top of their profession. Speakers for the Birmingham seminar include Picture Editor of the Observer, Tony Bell; Client Engagement Manager of 24 Productions, Rhiannon Reid; Head of Photographs of Birmingham Central Library, Peter James; Dewi Lewis of Dewi Lewis Publishing; Cultural and Education Manager of Magnum Photos, Fiona Rogers; and Head of International Picture Desk of ActionAid, Laurence Watts. These seminars are always massively oversubscribed and photographers usually pay £250+VAT to attend. Not only will 10 IdeasTap members jump the queue, they’ll also pay just £50+VAT. The seminar will take place at the Photography Department of Birmingham City University: School of Art, Margaret Street, Birmingham. Both days begin at 9.30am and end at 5pm. To apply you’ll need to upload five photos to your IdeasTap portfolio and explain, in 100 words or less, how your career would benefit from this opportunity. For full details of how to apply, head to this page This brief closes at 5pm on Thursday 17 November 2011.
I have been approached by Pool Of Memories to ask if there is any photographers interested in submitting for an exhibition based around the Moseley Road Baths; check out this taken from their page:

The Friends of Moseley Road Baths are looking for artists to submit work for an exhibition of art inspired by Moseley Road Baths and swimming in Birmingham for this year’s Memories and Memorabilia Day.
This event is part of the Friends’ Heritage Lottery funded “Pool of Memories” oral history project and there is a possibility that work submitted will be included in the book and website being produced.
The exhibition will take place for one day only on Saturday 29th October 2011 at the former Moseley School of Art on Moseley Road, Birmingham.
Work can be in any medium although space availability and any equipment needed will be taken into account during selection. To submit work, please email to memories@friendsofmrb.co.uk the following: The closing date for entries is 7th October 2011.
The dates have been set!
August 4th
On August 4th there will be an informal meet up at 6pm, held at 6/8 Kafe. This will just be a coffee and a chat session, anyone is welcome to turn up and talk photography. This will also be a chance for Portrait Project pairs to get together at a set time and meet others taking part.
On August 4th, after the meeting finishes, everyone is welcome to head to one of the Ping Pong tables scattered around Birmingham and we will have a Birmingham Loves Photographers Ping Pong Tournament (don’t worry, it’s not really a tournament, just a bit of fun…I’m rubbish) This will give you ample opportunity to take some photos and enter them into the Ping! Photography Competition. Get practising!

August 16th - 6:30 Start
Then on August 16th there will be another get together at 6/8 Kafe. This will be a chance for participants of the portrait project to share work they have done, show others who are interested in the project, have a chit chat and also a short lecture by a guest speaker on portrait photography.
This will be more chilled out then our last meet up, giving a chance to meet other togs around Birmingham.
Hope to see you at both and if there is anything you would like to see or contribute then just give us a shout.

Calling all Ping Pong Photographers – we’re offering £100 of Puma goodies for the best Ping! pic in Brum
Ping! is all over Brum city, so grab you camera, phone, instamatic or whatever and get snapping. Freeze the essence of Ping! whether it’s a mate’s scissor chop, spectacular matches or you and your friends having fun on the sun. We want to see it all.
How to enter for Birmingham: Post up your pics on the Ping! England Facebook before 6th August
Our expert panel will make a decision within a week and get in touch….
I propose Birmingham Loves Photographers has a Ping Pong tournament on the night of our next meet up - August 4th.
